Day 1 Puerto Vallarta

Today we hopped a Sunwing Airlines plane and made our way to Puerto Vallarta. The flight was great. We were fed well and lots of free drinks. The staff was very friendly and the flight went smoothly.

The timeshare people do tend to swarm you as you pass through the airport and we intend to meet up with one in order to save money on any tours we plan to take.

We reached our hotel in no time and was pleasantly surprised considering it's only a 3 star. The pool was very nice and the room average. We had to change rooms in order to get two side by side. We didn't get an ocean view but we were close to everything.

Once we settled in we made our way around the resort before enjoying a nice meal at the buffet restaurant by the pool.

Night soon fell upon us and we settled in for a good nights sleep. We need our rest for all the adventures to come during our week in Puerto Vallarta.

Night!

Day 2 Puerto Vallarta

Today was our first full day in Puerto Vallarta. We tried out the buffet restaurant in the resort for breakfast before hopping on a city bus to go into Puerto Vallarta city centre.

The bus was quite a ride as you can tell from Theresa's face....it was next to impossible to keep upright with all the bumping around.

We laughed all the way into town.

We hopped off the bus once in town and walked along the shore and checked out the vendors selling their wares.

After a day of shopping and enjoying a nice Mexican lunch...we made our way back to the resort for a nice dinner in one of the restaurants on the resort and the night was capped off with the nightly entertainment down by the beach.

Day 3 Puerto Vallarta

Today we decided to go listen to a time share so we could get discounts on the four tours we wanted to take. By spending a few hours listening to them, we were able to save hundreds of dollars. It was worth it. They served us up a delicious breakfast and then we had a tour of the Mayan Palace before they gave us there little salespitch. Of course we didn't purchase anything...just the discounted tours!

When we returned to the resort, we donned our suits and spent the afternoon on the beach and at poolside. The weather was great. The red flags were up again so this meant no swimming in the ocean because of the strong undertow.

We did however make our way into the pool. It was nice and warm.
Later on we enjoyed a very beautiful sunset. Lots of pictures were taken and this was my favourite one of the evening. Every night we would head to the beach to enjoy another Mexican sunset. It never disappointed us.
After we were done with photographing the beautiful sunset we dolled up and made our way to an Italian restaurant for dinner. The food was good and the waiters were very attentive.

Day 4 Puerto Vallarta

Today Theresa and I swam with the dolphins. We weren't allowed to bring our cameras in as I think they want you to purchase the photos their professional photographer took. Theresa bought one but I didn't as I already have a pic from my swim with the dolphins in the Bahamas. All in all it was a fun time.

When we returned, we spent the day on the beach and at poolside where we always sipped Pina Coladas brought to us by the poolside waiter. Yum Yum

Later that evening after another great dinner, we made our way to the poolside deck where the nightly entertainment was held. It was a great show...very colourful.

Day 5 Puerto Vallarta

Today we went on the Yelapa Boat Tour. We were supposed take a boat 2 hours up the coast and then spend 1 hour on the beach and then 1 hour touring a small village and visiting a waterfall.

This was the plan but like some plans....they don't go according to plan. A cruise ship coming into port delayed our departure by almost 1 1/2 hours. This meant we only had 1/2 an hour on the beach and a quick tour of the village. No rain for 7 months meant the waterfall was nothing more than a trickle. Oh well....what can you do, lol.
Tonight we ate dinner at a nice Mexican restaurant on the Canto del Sol resort where we were staying. The food was good and the service wonderful. The beautiful artistic walls were a pleasure for the eyes.

Off to bed to rest up for tomorrows adventure!

Day 6 Puerto Vallarta

Today we spent time by the pool and beach. We swam, played volleyball, did water yoga and sipped our Pina Coladas inbetween all activities. It was a great day.

Later that evening we boarded a boat for a one hour trip up the coast. We reached our destination for the tour called Rthyms of the Night where a wonderful old mexican show was put one for us. Before long we were making our way to a delicious buffet served along the beach. Our seats were up high offering a nice view of all the well lit boats on the ocean.

It was a great evening and back onto the boat we went for the one hour ride home. They served drinks, played music and turned out all the lights so we could see the stars.

Day 7 - Puerto Vallarta

Today I woke up to a new adventure. Zip lining! You strap yourself into a harness and then two clamps hold you to a guy wire that hangs two hundred feet in the air. I was sure I'd be terrified but to my surprise I was totally exhilarated by the whole experience.

I have to admit though....there was one part of the whole process I didn't enjoy. There were 12 zip lines we were suspended from throughout the morning but in between each one we had to climb a lot of steps built into the side of the mountain set in the jungle outside of Puerto Vallarta. It was an exhausting climb, but worth every minute for the sheer thrill of flying through the air at great speeds and great heights.
Added note: When I returned home the news on the TV was that a man visiting Mexico tried the zip line and something happened and he fell 65 feet, broke his back in 3 places and they don't know if he will be paralyzed or not. Then last month a woman visiting the Carribbean fell from a zip line to her death when her harness broke. If I had of read this before I left for Mexico...there is a 100% chance I would have never done it. So with that said....I've done it once and once is enough. On to the next daring adventure! :-)

Later in the evening we decided to treat ourselves for our last night in Puerto Vallarta. We grabbed a taxi and the driver suggested we go to the Happy Lobster to help satisfy our seafood craving. The service and food was great. Before long we were back at our hotel to pack for our return home tomorrow.

Day 8 - Puerto Vallarta

It's our last day in Mexico and we basically packed, checked out and then did a little shopping before heading out to the beach.

Once on the beach I decided to spend the last of my pesos on some jewellery. I purchased a turquoise bracelet with matching ring and pendant. I now need to find a chain to complete the set. The black pendant and ring was purchased earlier in the week from the vendors who sell their wares on the beaches of Mexico.

It wasn't long before we were saying our goodbyes to Puerto Vallarta and taking off to the skies for our 5 hour flight back home to Calgary.

We'll miss Mexico for sure!
